A1 values (raw materials) were prepared considering specific national EPDs, Ecoinvent data and economic allocation. The allocation rules used for this EPD are based on generalITB PCR A. Production of CEM II/A-V 42,5 R is a lineprocess in an manufacturing plant located at Gdynia.CEM II/A-V 42,5 R is not the only CEM product and theallocation in the manufacturing plant was made on themass basis allocation. In the case of fly ash, a co-productfrom electricity production used as a cement constituent,economic allocation was applied. For a syntheticgypsum, allocated impacts are economic based but plaingypsum wase (a value = 0) are neglected in the cementLCA due to its very low impact.Minimum 99.5% of impacts from the production lineswere allocated to product covered by this declaration.Energy supply (gas and electricity) was inventoried andallocated to the product assessed on the mass basis. 99.5% of the consumed materials and 100% energy consumptionwas inventoried in factory and were includedin calculation. In the assessment, all significant parametersfrom gathered production data are considered,i.e. all raw material used per formulation, utilized energy,and electric power consumption, direct productionwaste, and available emission measurements. The followingprocesses were excluded from the LCA study: useof chromate reducing agents (total mass < 0.2% of cements),use of grinding balls. The total of neglected inputflows per module A1-A3 does not exceed the permittedmaximum of 1% of energy usage and mass.Tires consumption for transport was not taken intoaccount. Pre components, dyes, foils, papers, labels,tapes with a percentage share of less than 0.1%were not included in the calculations. It is assumedthat the total sum of omitted processes does not exceed1% of all impact categories. For its production, calcareous materials(for example, limestone, chalk) and other natural orwaste materials are used, correcting the proportion ofthe silicates and aluminates, such as: clay, sand, fly ash,iron-bearing additives or slag from the steel industry.All of these materials are crushed, homogenised and introducedinto a rotary kiln where they are sintered at1450°C.In Cemex Poland the clinker is produced in two plants(Chelm, Rudniki). The main fuels used in the clinker firingprocess are alternative waste-derived fuels. Yearby year, the share of the alternative fuels is graduallyincreasing, while the use of fossil fuels is decreasing.Among alternative fuels, there is the biomass for whichthe carbon footprint is zero.The amount of the CO2 calculated in accordance withthe European regulations for monitoring the productionof the CO2 for the plant in Rudniki in connectionwith the production of the clinker is 722 kg of the CO2/Mg of clinker, and in Chelm 725 kg of the CO2/Mg ofclinker.Cement is produced by the joint grinding of the mainconstituents of the cement (for example, clinker, fly ash,blast furnace slag) with minor additional constituents,setting time adjuster and other additives.Cemex Poland produces cement in three plants (Chelm,Gdynia, Rudniki).The product phase (A1-A3, see Table 3) and the followingprocesses/modules were taken into account in theLCA analysis: A1 – the production of raw materials: fuel extraction,raw material extraction, electricity production, alternativefuel production, A2 – the transport: transport of raw materials, A3 – the production of a product: production of rawmeal, fuel consumption for firing, consumption of theelectricity for grinding.The figure below (Figure 1) shows the cement manufacturingprocess from the quarry to the shipment (productionphase) in a schematic way. - EPD NPCR Part A: Construction products and services.
